Memories of sweltering in front of a fan in summer are fading as the air turns crisper, the evening comes earlier and life becomes that little bit cosier. As the temperature begins to change and leaves start to fall, take the sign to update your home for a new season... autumn! These subtle accents and simple style changes will help set the mood for the months to come.

Add blankets for texture

The quickest way to transition your home from summer to autumn? Add warm wool blankets in easy-to-grab places for those chilly nights. Not only are blankets cosy, but they can effortlessly change the look of your room with a splash of autumn colour. Your blankets can either provide an accent inspired by the tones of the autumnal landscape in red, yellow or green shades. Or, go neutral with oatmeal, grey or cream coloured blankets placing focus is layering and texture. Which ever you choose, blankets will instantly make your autumn decor pop.

Pile up soft cushions

Once you've sorted the blankets, it's time to pile up the cushions! It's amazing the difference you can make to your décor with the humble cushion. Why? In seconds you can refresh your scheme for the new season with a brand new cover. For autumn, we love adding in richer and warmer colours and loading up on texture by picking velvet or knit fabrics. If your budget allows it, why not buy a few more cushions to create the ultimate pile up of comfy cushions for autumn nights-in?

Extend autumn evenings in the garden

Outdoor gatherings still feel the safest for many, which means making use of your garden well into autumn! Our small wool throws are perfect to drape over your knees while you enjoy those chillier nights outside. When the time finally comes to say goodbye to the garden furniture, be sure to store it away in a shed or indoors if you have the space. If not, use a cover that's waterproof to help preserve it that much longer. Once you do that, you truly know that autumn is in full swing.

Create your own autumn wreath

We saw this wreath on Pinterest and have been patiently waiting for the leaves to fall to bring it to life. Creating a wreath using the natural elements around us is the perfect autumn activity. Start with a shop-bought wire wreath base, then add leaves, pine cones and evergreen sprigs. For finishing touches, try acorns, gourds, miniature pumpkins and chrysanthemums. Hang it on your door or above your fireplace through autumn, then use the same base to make a new seasonal wreath when Christmas comes!

Light candles with seasonal scents

It can't just be us that love to buy new scented candles for autumn. Switching up the scents in your home is so simple and instantly shifts the seasonal mood. From pumpkin and cinnamon to maple and sandalwood, there truly is an autumn scent for everyone. If candles aren't your thing, there are plenty of diffusers, essential oils and room sprays that will help set the mood in seconds.
