British blanket company weaving mill

We’re helping to keep traditional weaving alive in tough times

As an online business, The British Blanket Company has been crucial in helping British weaving mills stay afloat during the struggles of lockdown. When the bricks-and-mortar shops and tailors had to close, many of their orders dried up. Thanks to your amazing support for The British Blanket Company, we’ve been able to help our mills keep the looms running and keep talented weavers employed. Britain’s weaving heritage is so precious and we’re determined to do all we can to help it survive. Thank you for continuing to order from us so we can order from them!

british birds special edition blankets

We’re designing more exclusive blankets than ever before

Our Special Edition British Birds collection was a great success in 2020 and we also launched an expanded range of XL throws for king size beds in response to customer demand. In 2021 we’ll be introducing another Special Edition collection, plus more exclusive designs and colours than ever before. Stay tuned for gorgeous new patterns, fresh colourways and cosy new weaves arriving on The British Blanket Company website over the coming months.

We’re a proud Bristol business

Did you know that the very first blankets were produced in our home city of Bristol? Historians suggest that a heavily napped woollen fabric was pioneered by Thomas Blanquette, a Flemish weaver who lived in Bristol in the 14th century. Over time, lengths of this cloth became known as ‘blankets’.

In 2021 we’ll be getting more involved in supporting our fellow Bristol businesses and highlighting our favourites to you. Wherever you live, there are so many ways to support small businesses in your area, even without buying. A little conscious spending and sharing by us all will help local businesses weather the storm ensure there’s still a lovely selection of independent shops to buy from in the post-coronavirus world.

We’re adapting to the post-Brexit world

We’re working our socks off to get our shop back on track to accept EU orders following the difficult decision to pause European sales earlier this month. We really love our EU customers and want to give you smooth and fast delivery, which just hasn’t been possible with the disruption and delays all the couriers and border agencies are experiencing at the moment. As soon as we can be confident of resuming great service, EU orders will be activated once again. Thanks for bearing with us!
