With your support over the last five years, we’re expanding our small family business and creating new job opportunities for local people. This seems a perfect time for you to meet the team (both old and new) with more new members joining us in the coming months.

Get to know Our Co-Founders

Meet the Team Behind The British Blanket Company Co-founder Bethan
Name and where you’re from: I’m Bethan John. I’m originally from rural Somerset and now live in historic Clifton, in Bristol.

What do you do at The British Blanket Company?
I’m the company Co-founder, together with my brother, Joe. I’ve done a bit of everything over the past five years, but my main focus now is sourcing the best blankets from mills around the British Isles, designing new ranges, styling photo shoots and helping customers find the best blanket to suit their style.

Something people would be surprised if they knew:
I’m a qualified dog trainer and I help train puppies for the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People in my spare time.

What goes best with a blanket?
Freshly laundered sheets and sliding my wake-up alarm to ‘off’ for the next day.

Favourite local spot?
I’m a keen Lindy Hop dancer and The Folk House on Park Street is the hub of many happy memories for me. After almost a year wearing loungewear 24/7, I can’t wait to put on a vintage dress, my fave red lipstick and spin around the dancefloor again.

Meet the Team Behind The British Blanket Company Co-founder Joe Name and where you’re from

I'm Joe John and I grew up with Bethan in a small town called Wiveliscombe in Somerset. I now live south of the river in Bedminster, Bristol.

What do you do at The British Blanket Company?
Having started the business with Bethan in 2015, I’ve turned my hand to a bit of everything. Part-time accountant, web designer, photographer and anything in between! Keeping the wheels turning to make sure we can offer cosy blankets to our lovely customers.

Something that someone would not necessarily know about you:
I love exploring interesting places and in 2009 travelled through Russia to China on the Trans-Mongolian Railway. Since being homebound in 2020, I’ve been more focussed on growing chillies and baking bread!

What goes best with a blanket?
Bundled up on the sofa watching a film. I’m a big fan of independent British films and have a soft spot for horror.

Favourite local spot?
Most of my favourite places are somewhere close to the sea. I love the feeling of getting warm after a surf trip with friends. Or, t
he local equivalent of enjoying some cans of craft beer (from Beer Necessities) with legs hanging over the harbourside sums up the summer in Bristol perfectly for me!

 Our Marketing Team

Meet the Team Behind The British Blanket Company - Digital Marketing

Name and where you’re from:

Amanda McCullough and I come from the great state of Virginia via California in the United States!

What do you do at The British Blanket Company?

I’m Head of Digital Marketing at The British Blanket Company.

Something people would be surprised if they knew:
I was a digital nomad for over 3 years and as a result, I got to travel while working with clients around the world with my agency, Go Digital. My favourite spot to be a digital nomad was in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It was a smaller city with a great community and even bigger coffee culture. It’s no wonder how I ended up in Bristol.

What goes best with a blanket?
A Saturday morning with a coffee that has a bit of sugar and oat milk (#treatyourself) while re-reading any of Sarah J Maas books. All that is made even better of course with one of our XL Blankets for ALL the cosy vibes.

Favourite local spot?
The Pump House has to be one of my favourite places in Bristol as they have shown resilience adapting and adjusting to our current world. Living in Hotwells, there aren't a lot of places to buy fresh produce without having to trek up the hill to Clifton. The Pump House has become my go-to for amazing sourdough bread, fresh produce and the occasional takeaway roast.

Meet the Team Behind The British Blanket Company - Digital Marketing
Name and where you’re from:

I’m Kirsty Leanne and I’m from Telford, in Shropshire. I have lived here for most of my life, however, I have also spent time living in both London and Orange County, California.

What do you do at The British Blanket Company?

I work with the Digital Marketing team creating content for social media.

Something that someone would not necessarily know about you/people would be surprised if they knew:

That although I like to travel a lot, I’m actually scared of pretty much everything. I try to push myself out of my comfort zone to do the things I missed out on for years, so by travelling I’m hoping to cross off my fears one by one! I’m not sure I’ll ever get over my fear of open water, however…

What goes best with a blanket?

Some snacks and a feel-good movie!

A memory that brings you joy?

A memory that brings me joy is the first time I ever saw fireflies. I was camping in the middle of nowhere in Tennessee and I spotted lights flickering in the distance. I had no idea what they were and so I asked our tour leader, who explained that they were fireflies and that their lights dim randomly. I don’t know why the memory sticks out in my mind so much, but whenever I think of happiness, I go straight back to that moment!

Meet the Team Behind The British Blanket Company - Marketing Intern Janine

Name and where you’re from:
Janine Alexander and I am from Enfield, North London.

What do you do at The British Blanket Company?
I am the Digital Marketing and Social Media Intern! I’m a 3rd Year Geography student and I have joined the company as part of the University of Bristol’s widening participation scheme. I am currently planning my own social media campaign, helping Amanda with digital marketing and creating content for the social media channels. I also have been aiding Bethan and Joe with day-to-day business tasks.

Something that someone would not necessarily know about you:
As well as enjoying being cosy at home, I also love the outdoors! I am Mountain Leader trained and also a keen caver and climber. I enjoy exploring beautiful landscapes and often get myself in quite sticky and silly situations whilst doing so.

What goes best with a blanket?
A glass of wine, Planet Earth and a dog curled up on the sofa next to you.

Favourite local spot?
My favourite spot in Bristol has to be Peregrine Watch Point on the Downs. I love sitting there in the sun on a summer’s day or having a nap on a picnic blanket whilst my boyfriend takes photos of birds. It is also a brilliant place to watch the sunset on a clear day!

The British Blanket Company Employee of the Year

Meet the Team Behind The British Blanket Company - Scout
Name and where you’re from:
I’m Scout, a miniature poodle puppy from Bristol.

What do you do at The British Blanket Company?
I sit under Bethan’s desk and nibble her blanket tassels. I have also recently been appointed Chief Judge for the new #petsinblankets photo contest, launching soon.

What goes best with a blanket?
My favourite toy, Monster. I like to use him as a pillow.

The best thing about being a puppy at The British Blanket Company?
I have the warmest and cosiest and snuggliest places to sleep a pup could ever wish for. Also, when I sit still for photo shoots, I get treats!

Your favourite local walk?
Clifton Observatory, where I can meet all my doggy friends. On the way back I go to Foliage Cafe where Mum gets a hot chocolate and they give me a biscuit.

Why you think other pets should become #petsinblankets?
Because if you steal their blanket often enough, your humans might buy you one of your own!
