After a year of lockdown, we’re all reconsidering the space in our homes like never before. From juggling WFH and home schooling, to the frustrations of furlough, our experiences of staying at home for much of 2020 are already shaping design trends for the years to come.
In this blog, we’ll help you master 5 of the biggest interior trends of 2021. Read on to find out which key buys you’ll need to get the look, and how to select the perfect blankets to complement each new style.
Leafy foliage and walls painted in ‘Puck’ by Little Greene Paint Company create an inviting indoor-outdoor living space
1. GREEN WALLS
Green interiors are set to surge in popularity in 2021. After a year largely spend indoors, decorating schemes that feel connected with nature are right on trend. Valspar reports searches for green paint shades have skyrocketed, with ‘forest’ increasing 300% and ‘sage’ 250% in recent months.
Science shows that just looking at something green can decrease heart rate and alleviate stress, so painting your walls green is one of the easiest and most beneficial ways to bring this calming shade into your home.
Get the Look
- Apply paint in block colours for a true forest-bathing effect
- Choose natural accessories in raw wood and wicker
- Add interest with printed fabrics in all-over botanical motifs

2. EARTHY NEUTRALS
Beige is back, and it’s anything but bland! Grey has been the dominant neutral shade in interiors for a while now and, while we still love grey, we’re increasingly drawn to softer earth-toned neutrals when adding new blankets to our range.
Don’t be afraid to layer several warm neutral shades together, from oatmeal and linen to terracotta and sand. All are cosy and easy to live with.

- Texture is as important as colour, so layer, layer, layer!
- Break up the beige with geometric patterns and prints
- Add a dash of black to avoid earthy-neutrals looking bland

This comfortable living room uses linen, wood and sisal to create an understated style. Simple clay accessories and a bunch of pampas grass completes the look
3. NATURAL MATERIALS
The most comfortable rooms feel warm and lived-in. Natural materials like wood, linen, sisal and wool instantly create a down-to-earth vibe. They also become even more beautiful as they age, adding a timeless and authentic mood.
Rattan furniture has shot up in popularity, with online searches increasing a whopping 809% during the last 12 months. It makes a versatile indoor/outdoor choice for those wanting to spend more time in their gardens, but who lack the space to store dedicated outdoor furniture.

- Check the origin of woods, to ensure they come from sustainable sources

4. JAPANDI
The ‘Japandi’ trend blends Japanese minimalism with pared-back Scandi style. For design lovers, it offers the magic formula, being timeless, functional and harmonious.
For those who like to keep things minimal in their homes, Japandi decor is clean and uncluttered. It also feels slightly warmer than an all-white scheme, with the addition of fresh greenery and simple line-drawn patterns.
Get the Look
- Pair pale woods with black-lacquered furniture
- Embrace ‘wabi-sabi’ with simple objects that are imperfectly beautiful
- Clutter instantly spoils this look, so tidiness is essential!

5. HOME OFFICES
Compulsory homeworking during lockdown has already had a ripple effect on how we design and organise our space at home. With few people lucky enough to have a dedicated space for their new home office, and WFH likely to remain the norm for some time, design solutions that create the illusion of separate spaces to promote work-life balance are ever-important.
As a seasoned work-from-home pre-pandemic, our co-founder, Bethan, designed this built-in alcove desk space. It offers plenty of storage to conceal clutter and can be closed in the evening to avoid the temptation of checking emails late at night. Plants and pops of bright colour make the space more cheerful.
Get the Look
- Folding screens or curtains can help create semi-separate spaces for work and study
- Style your desk with plants, colourful artwork and a cosy knee rug
- If you have space outside, garden room offices can add value to your home
