Today on the blog, we’re sharing something a little different. Our Email Marketing Manager, Nele, has let us peek into her family kitchen to bring you the recipe that’s been part of her life for as long as she can remember: homemade cinnamon rolls.
For Nele, these sweet, spiced buns carry memories of childhood in Germany. She remembers taking large Tupperwares of cinnamon rolls into school to share with friends, battling her sisters for the last few still on the tray, and never quite waiting long enough for them to cool before pulling one apart while the butter was still warm.
The recipe comes from Nele’s mum, passed down and now slightly adapted to suit ingredients that are easy to find here in the UK. Soft, pillowy dough rolled with cinnamon and sugar, baked until golden and filling the whole house with its comforting scent.
If you’d like to bring a taste of Nele’s family tradition into your own home, here’s the recipe she has kindly shared with us.

Nele’s cinnamon rolls
Ingredients
For the dough
-
500g strong white bread flour
-
1 pack instant yeast
-
75g demerara sugar
-
2 medium eggs
-
1 pinch of salt
-
125ml lukewarm milk
-
100g cooled melted butter
For the filling
-
75g cooled melted butter
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
-
25g demerara sugar
Method
-
Mix the flour and yeast together in a large bowl.
-
Add the remaining ingredients and knead into a smooth dough (about 5 minutes). Cover and leave to rest for 1 hour until doubled in size.
-
Roll the dough into a rectangle, about 1cm thick. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle generously with cinnamon and sugar.
-
Roll up lengthwise, then slice into 1.5cm rounds. Place onto a baking tray, leaving a little space between each.
-
Bake at 200°C for 6–10 minutes until golden.
Best served warm, these rolls are a true taste of home for Nele — and now, perhaps, for you too. Perfect for slow weekends, enjoyed with a hot drink and your cosiest wool blanket. Bliss!
