3 pro tips to make yellow look good in a room

Yellow is always an eye-catching colour, even more so if you opt for on-trend Daffodil. These are my favourite tips and tricks to make decorating with yellow a success.

Pro Tip 1: Yellow pairs best with very dark woods or light woods. Veer away from yellow if your room contains mid-tone woods like oak and pine – these already have warm undertones and decorating with yellow can give your room an unappealing glow.

Pro Tip 2: Painting a yellow accent adds a splash of energetic colour without overwhelming the room. If you’re tired of the trend for a single feature wall, shake things up and try painting a yellow accent around the opening of a knock-through, in a panel using masking tape, or on an internal door.

Pro Tip 3: Understand the direction of the light in your room and choose a yellow paint shade to balance it out. Yellow is a good colour for north-facing rooms where the light is naturally cooler, adding a welcome glow of sunshine. You can still use yellow is south-facing rooms but choose yellow shades that contain less red/orange pigment.
