Here at The British Blanket Company, we're lucky enough to call Bristol home. The city is full of exciting neighbourhoods to explore, but Clifton holds a special place in our heart. Its timeless elegance, iconic architecture, and community of independent makers inspired our Clifton Blanket Collection. Much like the area itself, these herringbone blankets blend subtle sophistication with natural warmth – the perfect balance of style and comfort.
In honour of this inspiration, we’ve created a Clifton weekend itinerary to help you experience the charm of this beautiful Bristol neighbourhood for yourself. From boutique shopping and cosy cafés to art, culture, and stunning views, Clifton is the perfect setting for a relaxed and refined getaway.
Here’s how to spend the ultimate weekend in Clifton.

Discover history, elegance and charm of Clifton in our weekend guide
Saturday Morning: Boutique Shopping in Clifton Village
Weekends are always bustling in Clifton Village, but it's well worth braving the crowds to hunt for some hidden gems in the many boutique stores this neighbourhood has to offer. With so many to choose from, its easy to feel overwhelmed, so here are our top picks:
- Clifton Arcade: A must-visit for treasure hunters, this Victorian shopping arcade is home to antiques, vintage finds, and quirky curiosities.
- Heron Books: Located on Regent Street, this independent book shop should not be missed. If you’re not sure what to pick, simply tell the shopkeeper what you like to read – their thoughtful, personalised recommendations will help you find your next favourite book.
- The Bristol Artisan: A short stroll from Clifton Village through Georgian streets, this store is one of our favourites. Discover unique handcrafted homewares, jewellery, and gifts from talented local makers.
- Forest and the Flowers: Clifton Village's most Instagrammable florist, with extravagant blooms nestled beneath candy striped parasols.
Take your time soaking up Clifton’s picturesque streets, lined with pastel-hued buildings and elegant Georgian architecture. Royal York Crescent, reputed to be the longest crescent in Europe, is not to be missed.

Saturday Afternoon: Lunch With A View
After a busy morning of shopping, you're sure to have worked up an appetite! Take a short walk to Clifton Observatory's 360 café, for some delicious food and breath-taking views. Make sure to head up to the rooftop for a bird's eye view of the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge and Avon Gorge.
After lunch, if you still have energy to spare, you can head either to Clifton Downs or Ashton Court Estate for an afternoon stroll.
Visiting in August? You won't want to miss the Bristol Balloon Fiesta. one of the city’s most iconic events, taking place from 8th–10th August 2025. This spectacular celebration fills the skies with dozens of colourful hot air balloons, creating an unforgettable sight. While you can enjoy the view from almost anywhere in the city, our top recommendation is watching from the grassy slopes above Clifton Suspension Bridge – the perfect spot to take in the magic of the balloons soaring over the city.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge is an iconic landmark, it is best enjoyed in the late afternoon sun
Saturday Evening: A Touch of Culture
Spend your Saturday evening at St George’s Bristol, one of the city’s most beloved music venues. Nestled on the edge of Clifton, this beautifully restored Georgian church offers an intimate setting for a diverse range of performances, from classical concerts to jazz, folk, and world music.
The venue’s excellent acoustics and atmospheric surroundings make it a memorable spot to enjoy live music. Be sure to check their event schedule ahead of your visit to see what’s on – it’s the perfect way to round off your day in Clifton with a touch of culture.

- Primrose Café: A Clifton classic, offering hearty, freshly prepared brunch options and excellent coffee. With outdoor tables on a warm day it's perfect spot for people watching as you ease into your day.
- East Village: Known for its vibrant plant-based dishes and relaxed atmosphere, this café is perfect for those seeking a lighter yet indulgent brunch experience. It also features a charming shop, offering a curated selection of gifts.
- Catley's: Coral-coloured Catley's has quickly gained a cult following with its great coffee and indulgent pastries - the Rhubarb and Custard doughnuts are not to be missed.

Walk off your brunch with a stroll along Royal York Crescent, thought to be the longest terrace of houses in Europe
Sunday Afternoon: Immerse Yourself in Art at the RWA
Dedicate your Sunday afternoon to exploring the Royal West of England Academy (RWA), Bristol’s oldest art gallery. Housed in a stunning Grade II-listed building, the RWA is a cultural gem showcasing exceptional exhibitions of contemporary and historical art.
Take your time wandering through the beautiful light-filled galleries, which often include works from both established and emerging artists. You can read more about what's on at the RWA here.
