A hot tub in the UK countryside

8 quirky and romantic places to unwind in the UK

Dreaming of coastal retreats or country views of rolling hills and blue skies? What about a unique weekend away, high-above the ground in a treehouse? Here are eight quirky UK staycation retreats we can't wait to escape to when the time is right:

Outbuildings, Dorset

Outbuildings is a collection of luxury, pet friendly, converted outbuildings set on a family farm in the heart of the beautiful West Dorset countryside, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. What we love most is the experiences you can book alongside your stay, including champagne with hot tub or a movie night in their barn!

Lodge on a Lake, Wales

Set in 35 acres of lush Welsh countryside Lodge on a Lake offers all you could possibly want to unwind in seclusion. Some of the cabins come stocked with fishing gear, and those lake views are amazing!

The Castle Inn, Dorset

The Castle Inn is a traditional thatched pub close to Lulworth Cove, with a history dating back to the 16th century. Immaculately restored throughout, it’s the ideal base for exploring Dorset’s stunning Jurassic coastline and the beautiful Isle of Purbeck. If staying here, you may recognize one or two of our blankets in your room! We wrote about their room styling on our blog.

Treetops Treehouse, Devon

The steps up to Treetops Treehouse  lift you clear into the canopy and you’re suddenly alone with the peaceful breeze through the leaves, the occasional skittering squirrel and only the good kind of twitter. The temptation is to fire up the wood-burner, settle on the sofa and crack into the local welcome cider, but the rest of the treehouse is worth exploring too. We'd love to sit out on the deck with a great book

Lowfield House, Cumbria

Lowfield House is set in the hamlet of Little Langdale, nestled in the stunning valley with the same name. Situated between the breath-taking Coniston Fells to the south and the Langdale Fells to the north, Lowfield House has stunning views and sits in one of the most beautiful places in the Lake District. We love that the property has been in the same family ownership for 3 generations!

Dragon's Eye, Wales

The Dragon's Eye wakes up once more, to a beautiful lake view in the heart of West Wales countryside. As featured on 'Cabins in the Wild' series (Channel 4 and Netflix), this award-winning cabin offers a truly unique opportunity to see Wales through its legendary eye. With stainless steel shingles resembling a dragon’s scales, this unique glamping spot will really fire your imagination.

We don't know about you, but we could spend a day just soaking in their bath tubs.

Dimpsey Glamping, Somerset

Hide away in Dimpsey's Glamping delightfully private shepherd huts, each in their own field with stunning views (best enjoyed from the decadence of your own wood-fired hot tub). Embrace all that nature has to offer outside and then retreat into your shepherd hut where a delightfully comfortable bed, en-suite bathroom and all the creature comforts await you. A few nights in the country sounds heavenly, doesn't it?
